Studying in Canada

Every year international students come to Canada because of the high standards of its educational system. In most cases, when international students apply to a Canadian program, they must have previously obtained a student permit issued by the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). As immigration lawyers, we guide you in every step of your Canadian immigration and study application.
For applying for a study permit, you must have been admitted to a designated learning institution program. A designated learning institution is a school approved by a provincial government to host international students. Only students being admitted can apply for a study permit.

If you are planning on studying in Quebec, you must obtain a Quebec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ) before submitting your study permit application. Furthermore, a financial means test will be performed during your application process to establish if you have adequate financial resources to study in Quebec, which means being financially capable of paying your tuitions fees according to your study program, travelling expenses (from your country to Canada), everyday expenses, and health care insurance fees, and so for the length of your stay.

Usually, a study permit application has to be made before coming to Canada. However, depending on circumstances, some exceptions allow applicants to submit their requests once inside the country. The federal government will thus evaluate the reasons for your study permit application and proceed to a financial means test regarding your chosen study program. If your study permit application is declined, we can represent you before a qualified court to appeal this decision.

The Quebec Experience Program allows some students to apply for permanent residency in Quebec. Nevertheless, not all programs give access to this work permit; that is why choosing a study program according to your immigration procedures is crucial. To be eligible, you must have been living in Quebec for at least half of the length of your studies and prove that you have had a full-time work experience (with remuneration) after your program. Your post-graduation work permit will be valid regarding the time of your study program. Also, you must demonstrate that you meet the French proficiency standards, have adequate financial resources, and respect Quebec values. If you have received your permanent residency in Quebec, you could apply for a Canadian permanent residence. Get in touch with our team to know if you are eligible for the Canadian Experience Class Program or another related program that could increase your chances of staying permanently in Canada after your studies.
